Medical University of Białystok (MUB) is a prestigious, rapidly developing institution with a history spanning over 75 years, consistently achieving high scores in national university rankings. The university is active in the fields of science, research, teaching, and community engagement. Open Science is one of MUB’s priorities, as evidenced by the unique position of MUB’s Vice-Rector for Preventive Medicine and Open Science. MUB implements Open Access through its Open Access Policy adopted in 2018, as well as through the provisions of the Regulations on the Management of Copyright and Related Rights, Industrial Property Rights and the Principles of Commercialization of the Results of Research and Development at MUB. This policy was complemented by the appointment of an Open Access Representative by the Rector of MUB, who works in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Preventive Medicine and Open Science at MUB. In support of the Open Access Policy, the University co-creates Poland’s largest open repository of medical publications and research data—the Polish Platform of Medical Research: A knowledge and research potential platform. In addition, the University collaborates with dozens of research centers around the world. It has received prestigious grants, including those under the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Framework Program. As one of the most advanced centers for digital medicine in Poland, MUB integrates AI, clinical data, a biobank, and a genomic laboratory. MUB also conducts a population study unique in this part of Europe, carried out by the MUB’s Population Research Centre. Particular attention is paid to the Białystok PLUS —a cohort study involving long-term monitoring of the health status of a randomly selected sample of Białystok residents.
