Katarzyna Świerk

Since 2006 an employee of the University of Gdansk, currently Head of Science Office of and since 2016 also UG Plenipotentiary for Open Access to Scientific Publications. I am responsible for tasks related to the evaluation of scientific units, the implementation of publication strategies, the development of scientific careers, as well as in the field of international cooperation.Open Science encompasses various practices for making research results, publications and information available for the benefit of science and society. Transparency and openness enable collaboration with the external environment and wider knowledge transfer. This is also my task as UG Plenipotentiary for OA – to implement the principles of open science at my university. I am currently involved in two international projects – SEA EU and reSEArch- EU, where I am an Open Science Ambassador and Research Data Operator. In addition to promoting the principles of open science, one of the aims of the project is to establish common guidelines for research data management within the SeaEU consortium, but also beyond. The validation of institutional data management policies and promotion of them by the Open Science Ambassadors is a guarantee of success in their implementation. My experience gained from a joint project between three Pomeranian universities – the University of Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology and Gdansk Medical University – the Data Bridge is very helpful. The main objective of this project was to design and build a platform for collecting, searching, analysing and sharing open research data.
