The University of Lodz fulfils the tasks resulting from the mission and strategy of the University and from the values adopted by the University community, including usefulness to society, responsible education of future generations, cooperation and respect. Supporting the development of open science makes it possible to fulfil these tasks by conducting scientific research in a reliable manner and making its results available through international and local cooperation (publications, research data), as well as through the egalitarian nature of education. The University authorities have initiated a series of activities aimed at introducing good practices in terms of openness in research and teaching: appointment of the Rector of the University of Lodz as the Plenipotentiary for Open Access to publications and research results, opening and development of the University of Lodz Repository, activity of the University of Lodz Publishing House (open journals and monographs), participation in national and international consortia and working groups related to Open Science, organisation of events and trainings. Since 2010, the University of Lodz Library has been organising, among other things, an Open Access Seminar, which is open not only to the UL academic community, but to anyone interested.
